WHY STUDY IN DENMARK?

If you want to live and study in one of the best countries in the world, Denmark is your destination! It is the second happiest country in the world, as stated in the World Happiness Report. Immersed between incredible landscapes and incomparable nature, you will be able to get to every beautiful corner by bike.

Denmark is one of the best countries in the world: we don’t say so, the statistics do. It has all a country could wish for. In summer, you will be able to enjoy picnics at their beautiful lake’s shores, long bike rides and the company of charming people; in winter, a good mug of hot chocolate, while you share the heat of a fireplace and incredible stories, is a must. You will also enjoy many activities such as visiting museums and going to the cinema, which are free o with great discounts for students.

This country can be defined in one word: organisation. The system works very well and all is based on trust and tolerance. You will meet open-minded people who will embrace your culture, by looking forward to listening to your experiences and sharing theirs. The official language is Danish, but there are many opportunities to get a study program in English. Likewise, learning the language of the destination will open your mind and you will get closer to this historically rich culture.

Degrees often last between 3 years and 3 years and a half. However, if we choose an AP Degree, it can last two years, which can be extended to a year and a half if we decide to specialise.

Everything will depend on what we want to study and how we want our studies to be. Nonetheless, it should be noted that education in Denmark opts for a practical focus on all specializations.

PUBLIC UNIVERSITIES

First, we must highlight that for European Union students, the university is free. Many students choose Denmark as a destination for their studies as the tuition fees are non-existent and there are a good number of places, and because of the high reputation of many universities.

Public universities often have a higher reputation than private ones. Thanks to that, many exchange students opt for this country, which creates a multi-ethnic environment encouraged by the university.

AP DEGREE

This type of degree has a much more practical focus compared with a standard university. It is based on the acquisition of practical knowledge and specific professional competencies.

It is an interesting programme 2 years and 120 credits. If after two years you have a minimum of ETCS achieved you can gain access to a Top Up, that lasts around a year and a half, slightly less. What’s interesting about this combination is that we can have two titles within the same period we would devote to a whole degree.

accomodation

There are many accommodation options for the students, both residents and foreigners. Residences on the university campus, shared flats or houses. Usually, you will have at your disposal an individual bedroom and shared bathroom, kitchen, living room and dining room. Some flats have a terrace, others are remodelled, all depends on your budget and its location.

All the options have their advantages and disadvantages, so the decision is based on the comfort and habits of each person. It is advisable to live in a residence during the first months because it provides you with more personalized services and you will feel at home. Naturally, a residence has a higher cost than a shared flat, but it will all depend on the area where it is located and the type of bedroom.

specific exams

First, most universities only offer the first year taught in English. You will need a C1 certificate either IELTS, TOEFL, FCE, CAE, etc. If you don’t have any of these titles, don’t worry, we offer you English language courses. Afterwards, you will have to learn Danish. You won’t have to worry about this either as the Danish government offers free courses.

The second thing you must consider is that you must have completed and passed the last years of High School, but entrance exams will not be necessary. So, you will simply need a good average mark in High School and the rest will be a piece of cake.

The previous ones are the main requirements to bear in mind. However, some universities request more information about the student, such as a cover letter, a recommendation letter, an interview… All will depend on the university you apply for.

HOMOLOGATION OF THE DANISH QUALIFICATIONS

Depending on your country of origin, the process for obtaining the homologation will be different. Therefore, you can check the website of the government of your country or simply contact us, we will try to help you!

estimated annual cost

The cost can vary, bearing in mind the location of the accommodation. Non-European students must pay tuition fees, so they will have to take into account the costs before choosing their studies. It is usually more expensive for scientific studies like medicine, veterinary sciences, dentistry, etc. The university’s reputation and location must also be considered.

Finally, the estimated price for each institution (without possible scholarships/grants) is:

Public universities: free for European students, between 6,000 € and 12,000 € for non-Europeans.

AP Degree: free for European students, between 6,000 € and 12,000 € for non-Europeans.

SCHOLARSHIPS AND GRANTS

Although tuition is free, you can apply for a scholarship to help you finance your stay in Denmark. This is the case, for example, of the SU scholarship (Statens Uddannelsesstøtte), which gives you approximately 750Є per month and can be applied for by any European citizen of the EU, Swiss or EEA.

You must meet certain requirements in order to apply for this scholarship: work a minimum of 10 to 12 hours per week, be paid no more than 1,600Є per month and have been working in the country for 10 weeks before applying. Keep in mind that the government makes monthly checks to see if you meet the requirements and if you do not, you will have to return the amount of the scholarship.

On the other hand, international students are not left behind, since a multitude of scholarships are offered so that they can finance their studies, from those granted by the Danish government itself to those granted by some private institutions. It all depends on the university where you want to study and the degree you want to study.

FUTURE JOB OPPORTUNITIES

Many graduated students in Denmark or the ones that have studied there for a year decide to start working in this country. It is not a secret that they appear among the best work-life balances in the world. That means that the unemployment rate is practically non-existent. There are plenty of job opportunities for young people. What they place more value on is that you are an independent person who thinks big, is eager to work in a team and gives the 100% of yourself.

We can define Denmark as a welfare state: their economic and social system is based on the continuous development of the state and the citizens, which guarantees safety, health and education at a thriving level.

According to the Prosperity Index of the Institute Legatum of 2010 is one of the best countries to live in, despite the high taxes and living costs. In fact, the average salary of a worker is 55,412 € per year. It is a country that bases its development around the well-being of its citizens, which allows them to live in a quiet and balanced way.
