PUBLIC UNIVERSITIES

Public universities offer studies relatively affordable, with a good value for money. Many students choose Ireland as a destination for their studies as they have a wide variety of degrees and a good number of places. The price can vary according to the residence country.

Public universities are much more economical than private ones, despite many of them being of great renown. Thanks to that, a great amount of exchange students opts for this country, which creates a multi-ethnic environment that encourages diversity.

Private universities

Private universities, on the other hand, have a higher cost and fewer available places. However, they don’t make a distinction between residents and non-residents, the price tends to be the same.

They are self-financing due to loans, research prizes, grants, and the help of former students. State subsidies are not granted to them, but they usually have more advanced facilities and more personalised attention.

INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY

These studies have a much more practical approach compared with a standard university. It is based on the acquisition of practical knowledge and specific professional competencies.

There are 14 institutes of technology in Ireland and the degrees offered usually last 4 years. In addition, there is the possibility of doing an intermediate year of internship and then returning to complete your studies, which offers a direct opportunity to work in one of the famous Irish multinationals.

accomodation

There are many accommodation options for the students, both residents and foreigners. Residences on the university campus, shared flats or houses. Usually, you will have at your disposal an individual bedroom and shared bathroom, kitchen, living room and dining room. Some flats have a terrace, others are remodelled, all depends on your budget and its location.

All the options have their advantages and disadvantages, so the decision is based on the comfort and habits of each person. It is advisable to live in a residence during the first months because it provides you more personalized services and you will feel at home. Naturally, a residence has a higher cost than a shared flat, but it will all depend on the area where it is located and the type of bedroom.

specific exams

First, you must take into account that each university has different requirements when it comes to admission. All will depend on what you want to study and where. Most of the universities request the High School average mark and some the entrance exams mark. Health sciences universities often also ask for the grade of a specific entrance exam, such as physics or biology.

Some of the more prestigious universities request an interview, a personal statement, a recommendation letter, a portfolio, an audition, etc. It all depends on the approach of your studies and the institution where you want to carry them out.

Universities develop their studies programmes in English, which means that many request some language level certificate. They usually ask for a C1 and accept all kinds of certificates: IELTS, TOEFL, FCE, CAE, etc. Some universities don’t request a language certificate, but it is very important bearing in mind that you need to know how to speak English by your arrival. If you don’t have any of these certificates or if English is not your Achilles heel, don’t worry, we offer courses and we can help you!

estimated annual cost

The cost can vary, bearing in mind factors such as the chosen degree, the type and location of the accommodation and scholarships and grants given. However, what influences the most is the chosen degree. Many degrees like arts, engineering or health are more expensive. Depending on whether it is public or private, the price may increase or decrease, although this is not always true. There are some public universities that due to the reputation achieved through their years of history, fix higher prices than other public universities.

Unlike the UK, Ireland offers many grants for European students. There’s no need to get a visa to live there, which makes easier the search process for accommodation and enrolment in the university.

Finally, the estimated price for each institution (without possible scholarships/grants) is:

Public universities: between 4,000 € and 9,000 € for Europeans, up to 19,000 € for international students.

Private universities: up to 10,000 € for every student

Among these prices, we do not include the degrees of medicine, veterinary sciences, and odontology, which can reach up to 45,000 € per year.

SCHOLARSHIPS AND GRANTS

The scholarships and grants to bear the cost of your studies are personalized, that is, each university offers a scholarship that can be requested to study there. Each institution has a limited number of scholarships available, according to the requirements and the applications that it receives. You will have to submit your application within the established deadlines and meet some requirements they ask for.

The only scholarship given by the country is for international students (non-European nor US students) that is based on excellence and can reach up to 10,000 €. We must also consider that it asks for many requirements and key points you will have to meet.

FUTURE JOB OPPORTUNITIES

The Irish labour market can be defined with two words: growth and expansion. After Brexit, many businesses have chosen to move their headquarters to Ireland, which has led to the creation of many new working positions. Moreover, there is a lot of demand of specialized professional market, especially in sales. It is known that working towards an aim motivates you to make an even greater effort. That’s why if you’re thinking about emigrating to work after your studies, this is the perfect country to make an exchange and embrace a successful future.

Living in Ireland is much cheaper than you can imagine. In fact, compared with other capital cities like London or Rome, life is not that expensive. The minimum inter-professional salary is 1,723.8 € and the living cost is slightly below that figure, always depending on the area in which you are going to settle. The leisure and cultural prices are quite affordable, so you won’t have any problems living there. Furthermore, when it comes to studying you will be able to work part-time, which will allow you to satisfy some of your whims.

We must highlight that it being a country of the European Union, you will be able to work without any bureaucratic obstacle, which will allow you to opt for a higher way of life and to choose a comfortable home for you. We will advise you at all times, so, what are you waiting for?
