It's not just a year of life, but a whole life in one year.

WHY STUDY IN SWEDEN?

If you are looking for the perfect destination to study abroad, Sweden is the best option. With plenty of beautiful Scandinavian landscapes, it offers endless opportunities not only at a cultural level but also at an academic level. You will find a wonderful environment and a culture you will learn to appreciate.

Speaking of education, Sweden can only stand out. It is a country in continuous development and invests a lot in teaching. It is known that Nordic countries are an example of all educational systems around the world. They can be defined with one word: innovative; from the classrooms, where the theoretical system has been left behind, to the forefront technology they use. We must also highlight bilingualism teaching. Despite Swedish being the official language of this country, they offer a considerable number of courses in English.

Life perspective is ruled by a word: lagom. It is a term used to refer to balance and restraint, concepts they want to achieve with their lifestyle. From the moment you get off the plane, you’ll feel wrapped by this warm feeling of calm and happiness typical of this country. Don’t miss fika, the compulsory evening rest, while enjoying tea with kanerbullar (cinnamon bun) or a chokladboll (chocolate ball). This is a magical moment to share with your loved ones.

Another aspect we must highlight is public transport. This is an environmentally friendly country that has eco-friendly alternatives for passengers’ daily transport. There are many options you can choose from, from bike rides, which will lead you to the incredible landscapes while keeping fit, to the fantastic underground, a nice choice full of works of art.

The degree’s duration usually lasts between 3 and 4 years.

PUBLIC UNIVERSITIES

The first thing we have to highlight is that for European Union students’ university is free. Many students choose Sweden as a destination for their studies as the tuition fees are non-existent and there are a good number of places, and because of the high reputation of many universities.

Public universities usually have a higher reputation than private ones. Thanks to that, a great number of exchange students opt for this country, which creates a multi-ethnic atmosphere encouraged by the university.

Public universities are divided into two types: universities and university colleges.

Private universities

Private universities, on the other hand, have a higher cost and fewer places. Nonetheless, they make no distinction between residents and non-residents, the price tends to be the same. Usually, they are universities with no more than 20.000 students.

They are self-financing thanks to loans, research prizes, scholarships, and grants of former students. State subsidies are not granted to them, but they usually have more advanced facilities and more personalized attention.

Högskola (university college)

University colleges are autonomous and independent institutions. They can grant undergraduate qualifications, which belong to the first and second types. But authorization from competent bodies is needed to get graduate and PhD certificates, which belong to the third type.

FREE TIME

Sweden, a vast country covered with forests, crisscrossed by rivers and dotted with lakes, is a paradise for nature lovers and vast, immeasurable spaces. From the North Sea coast to the Arctic regions, Swedish nature presents itself in countless forms and guises: enchanting green landscapes, vast areas resembling a snowy desert, the northern night and the northern lights, vast lakes lined with impassable forests. . .

accomodation

There are many accommodation options for the students, both residents and foreigners. Residences on the university campus, shared flats or houses. Usually, you will have at your disposal an individual bedroom and shared bathroom, kitchen, living room and dining room. Some flats have a terrace, others are remodelled, all depends on your budget and its location.

All the options have their advantages and disadvantages, so the decision is based on the comfort and habits of each person. It is advisable to live in a residence during the first months because it provides you more personalized services and you will feel at home. Naturally, a residence has a higher cost than a shared flat, but it will all depend on the area where it is located and the type of bedroom.

specific exams

We must highlight that the Swedish language is essential for some degrees. Nonetheless, most universities offer the possibility of studying in English, which means that many of them request some kind of language certificate. They usually ask for a B2 and accept all kinds of certificates: IELTS, TOEFL, FCE, CAE, etc. If you don’t have any of these, don’t worry, we offer English courses.

It is also necessary to have completed and passed the specific type of studies related to the degree you want to apply for.

Furthermore, each university has different requirements to gain access. All will depend on what you want to study and where. Some of the most renowned universities ask for a personal interview, a cover letter, a letter of recommendation, a portfolio, an audition, etc. It all depends on the focus of your studies and the institution where you want to carry them out.

HOMOLOGATION OF THE SWEDISH QUALIFICATIONS

Depending on your country of origin, the process for obtaining the homologation will be different. Therefore, you can check the website of the government of your country or simply contact us, we will try to help you!

estimated annual cost

The cost can vary, bearing in mind factors such as the chosen degree, the type and location of the accommodation and the scholarships and grants given. However, what influences the most is the chosen university. Depending on whether it is public or private, the price may increase or decrease, although this is not always true. There are some public universities that due to the reputation achieved through their years of history, fix higher prices than other public universities. We must also take into account that prices tend to be higher for non-European students.

In short, the estimated price for each institution (without possible scholarships/grants) is:

Public universities: most are free for European students, between 80.000 SEK (7.540€) and 295.000 SEK (27.800€) for internationals.

Private universities: between 100.000 SEK (9.425€) and 300.000 SEK (28.275€)

SCHOLARSHIPS AND GRANTS

Sweden has several scholarships and grants that can be applied for. Mostly, they are for European students, but there are also some options for those from outside of Europe. Some of them are granted by the State and others by universities themselves, sometimes by the destination university or by the departure university.

The most requested scholarship is the Swedish Institute Scholarship or SISGP. It has broad application deadlines and is quite easy to apply. It is addressed to professionals and people with great enthusiasm to learn and emigrate at the same time. The grant covers the cost of the journey with a quantity of around 15.000 SEK (1.415€), maintenance expenses of 9.000 SEK (850€) monthly, tuition fees, accident and health insurance, membership to the Network for Future Global Leaders (NFGL) and membership to Alumni Network once the scholarship has finished.

Besides, international students aren’t left behind. There are dozens of scholarships for covering their studies, from the ones awarded by the Swedish Government to the ones given by private institutions. It all depends on which university you want to study and the degree you want to apply to.

FUTURE JOB OPPORTUNITIES

Many graduated students in Sweden or the ones that have studied there for a year decide to start working in this country. It is not a secret that they appear among the best work-life balances in the world. That means that the unemployment rate is practically non-existent. There are plenty of job opportunities for young people. What they place more value on is that you are an independent person who thinks big, is eager to work in a team and gives the 100% of yourself.

We can define Sweden as a welfare state: their economic and social system is based on the continuous development of the state and the citizens, which guarantees safety, health and education at a thriving level.

The average salary of an employee is 44.500 € (458.336 SEK) per year. It must be highlighted that this country is full of unions, which regulate the minimum wage and allow employees to have a good lifestyle.
