The program that designs a youth-focused career, enhances recreational, athletic and leisure experiences, and creates exceptional programming that fosters inclusion, community and resilient youth. Through critical thinking, decision-making and risk management, students are empowered to lead effectively and respond to challenges.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

MINIMUM AGE

19 years old

No criminal record, for which a police check is required.


language skills

Obtain a minimum grade of 65% in English 12, English Studies 12, English First Peoples 12, ENGL 090, or equivalent courses.

Or, have successfully completed three consecutive years of full-time secondary or postsecondary education taught in English in a country where English is the primary language.

English education from the following countries is acceptable: Canada, United States, U.S. Virgin Islands, United Kingdom, New Zealand, Australia, Tanzania, Ireland, Singapore, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Jamaica and the Philippines.

Alternatively, international students must demonstrate an intermediate level of English through an online test and interview, although they will be exempt if they have a CEFR B1, IELTS 4.5, TOEFL iBT 31 or Cambridge PET (Merit) level.

Upon completion of this program, students will have developed competency in youth programming, critical analysis and decision making, risk management, program planning, promoting inclusion and diversity, basic first aid skills, and the ability to develop career plans.

Graduates of this program will be eligible for employment opportunities such as:

  • Community Recreation Facilitator: organizes and leads recreational activities for youth in community settings.
  • Summer Camp Counselor: Guides and supervises youth in a summer camp, providing emotional support, leading activities and ensuring the safety of campers.
  • Summer Camp Activities Specialist: Designs and coordinates specific programs and activities within a summer camp, such as sports, arts, crafts or outdoor adventures.
  • Youth Program Assistant: Collaborates in the planning and execution of youth programs, assisting in the organization of recreational, educational and personal development activities.
  • Youth Program Coordinator: Oversees programs and services for youth, including the planning, implementation and evaluation of recreational, educational and youth development activities.
