It's not just a year of life, but a whole life in one year.

WHY STUDY IN THE USA?

How many times have we heard about the American dream? About the USA, the country of opportunities. Thanks to our program you will achieve one of your greatest goals: studying in the USA, the country where everything is possible.

What can we tell you that you don’t already know? The USA is a 10 in almost everything. The education provided to young people and the teaching approach makes them envied by many European countries. The educative system is unique, leaving plenty of room for creativity from elementary and high school. The optional subjects offered are focused on handicrafts and on developing passions and hidden talents. They are very committed to extracurricular activities and sports, which means that students may be awarded scholarships thanks to their practical skills and not just for their high qualifications.

We must also highlight the innovation in the classes and the laboratories. Many universities and colleges have the latest technologies, adding year after year different novelties so that learning can be at the highest possible level. Many companies even offer new technologies to universities, so that students can try them out and thus give them the opportunity to study in environments similar to those in which they will later work.

When it comes to the lifestyle and culture of this country, you will be welcomed with open arms. This country has a mix of cultures and ethnic groups that will make you fall in love with it. In every corner, you will be immersed in culture: the hustle and bustle in the early morning in the underground and at lunchtime, where you will be able to choose between endless kinds of restaurants to meet your needs. Besides, you will meet many people, each one from a different part of the world and all with a story to tell.

The degrees usually last between 2 and 4 years. As we have previously said, depending on the studies you choose their duration will change.

PUBLIC UNIVERSITIES

Public universities in the USA are known worldwide for their high reputation. Many of them appear in the TOP 50 of the best universities in the world. They usually offer undergraduate degrees, professional studies, and master’s and doctorate in different fields of knowledge.

Being accepted is an arduous task as annually thousands and thousands of students apply for a place. You will be able to rely on scholarships to access more easily. Generally speaking, in the degrees there are two stages: the first one lasts two years and gives the general contents for everyone; the second one only has the specific subjects related to your studies.

Private universities

Private universities, on the other hand, have a higher cost and fewer available places. However, they don’t make a distinction between residents and non-residents, the price tends to be the same. Normally they are universities with no more than 20 000 students.

They are self-financing due to loans, research prizes, grants, and the help of former students. State subsidies are not granted to them, but they usually have more advanced facilities and more personalised attention.

UNIVERSITY INSTITUTE

These are educational institutions that are dedicated to providing undergraduate degrees and do not offer postgraduate degrees. At the end of your degree, you will be awarded a bachelor’s degree in accordance with your field of study.

As in the case of public universities, it will be easier for you to gain access through a scholarship, whether it is a marks scholarship or a sports scholarship. These studies have a very practical approach and allow you to experience an environment that is very similar to what you will experience in the workplace.

COMMUNITY UNIVERSITY INSTITUTE

Also known as Technical colleges or Junior colleges, it is a great alternative due to the few access requirements and the relatively lower cost. Usually, they are studies of two years, which is equal to half of the university studies. For this reason, they receive the title of Associate Degree.

Upon completing these studies, you will be able to gain access without any impediments to university or university studies to finish your training and get a higher title.

accomodation

There are many accommodation options for the students, both residents and foreigners. Residences on the university campus, shared flats or houses. Usually, you will have at your disposal an individual bedroom and shared bathroom, kitchen, living room and dining room. Some flats have a terrace, others are remodelled, all depends on your budget and its location.

All the options have their advantages and disadvantages, so the decision is based on the comfort and habits of each person. It is advisable to live in a residence during the first months because it provides you more personalized services and you will feel at home. Naturally, a residence has a higher cost than a shared flat, but it will all depend on the area where it is located and the type of bedroom.

specific exams

We must bear in mind different requirements:

  • Finishing high school in your country and getting the academic records to get them translated into English and standardized through a company to the US educative system. In general, the records of the last 3 years are required. The entrance exam to the university of your country won’t be necessary as they are only to gain access to a university in your country of origin and not in the USA.
  • Pass the compulsory exams. These are mainly the SAT to evaluate your maths and English competencies and TOEFL (or equivalents). This doesn’t mean that they are the only exams you have to pass, since each university usually has its entrance exams. Besides, depending on the university and degree chosen you can be asked for additional academic requirements such as passing a certain number of subjects with a specific mark, etc.
  • Being accepted in a university or educative institution in the USA. If you are accepted you will be sent the forms I20 (visa F1 and M1) and DS-2019 (visa J1) to prove that you are admitted in order to be able to ask for your student visa, which is an essential document to come into the country.
  • Health insurance is mandatory and required for all international students as the health service is private. It is generally included in the fees and tuition (international students) of most universities.
  • Finally, the delivery of additional documentation. It is mainly your bank statement or that of your legal guardian(s) to prove that you can pay for your studies. Passport in order and renewed, and health documentation such as medical history and vaccination.

HOMOLOGATION OF THE AMERICAN QUALIFICATIONS

Depending on your country of origin, the process for obtaining the homologation will be different. Therefore, you can check the website of the government of your country or simply contact us, we will try to help you!

estimated annual cost

The cost can vary, bearing in mind factors such as the chosen degree, the type and location of the accommodation, and scholarships and grants given. However, what influences the most is the chosen university. Depending on whether it is public or private, the price may increase or decrease, although this is not always true. There are some public universities that due to the reputation achieved through their years of history, fix higher prices than other public universities. Besides, we must take into account that prices are usually higher for non-European students.

Finally, the estimated price for each institution (without possible scholarships/grants) is:

Public universities: between 20 000 € and 35 000 €

Private universities: between 30 000 € and 60 000 €

SCHOLARSHIPS AND GRANTS

There are endless scholarships you can request to study in the USA. Grants can be from the federal government, the state government, the institution in which you are enrolled or a private organisation or an NGO. The Education Department of the USA offers different federal grants to students who applied for a college or university, community college and career school for 4 years. Among them we must highlight the following:

  • Federal Pell Grants. It is a scholarship aimed at students with an undergraduate university degree. The amount received varies from year to year, but there is a maximum of $6 496 for the academic year 2021-2022. You must fill out a FAFSA form each year to keep the grant.
  • FSEOG Program (Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant). This program is managed by each department of financial aid of each participating institution. Not all institutions take part so you must ask the institution to which you apply. They are also aimed at the students of an undergraduate degree. You must fill out the FAFSA form and depending on your financial situation you will be given more or less money. Each institution that takes part in this program has a limited amount of FSEOG available grants and once that amount has been granted, giving more grants won’t be possible for the rest of the year. In general, the amount given can vary between 100 and 400 dollars per year, depending on factors such as the financial situation, the moment of the application and the FSEOG grants available in the institution in which you are registered. As in the previous case, the FAFSA form must be filled out annually.

In general, grants are not usually repaid unless you fail to fulfil some conditions for example, not finishing your studies, being given other grants or changing your status, that is, a change from full-time student to part-time.

Another option is to apply for a scholarship. As the grants, they can be awarded by different organizations or groups (educative institutions, businesses, individuals, private organizations, NGOs, etc.) Some of them are given for academic excellence, but there are others aimed at specific groups, for instance, women or graduate students. While others are granted according to the job post or the environment from which you come, such as the military families.

Scholarships can cover the entire tuition fee or can be a one-time awarded “prize” of a few dollars. In any case, we must bear in mind that the office of financial aid will be informed about the result of the application, so the amount will be reduced to the cost of attendance. It must be taken into account that having a scholarship or grant can affect the application for any other type of financial aid since the total amount can’t exceed the cost of your studies.

FUTURE JOB OPPORTUNITIES

The first thing we must highlight is that, nowadays, this country has an unemployment rate below 5%. This, despite being an achievement and something few countries can claim, demonstrates a static and dynamic labour market at the same time.

There is a great labour demand, from jobs where experience isn’t needed like kitchen helper, waiter, shop assistant, etc. (jobs to which you can gain access to request grants and which you will be able to combine with your studies) to jobs that provide a sufficient income to live in this beautiful country and indulge in some treats. There is a high demand for technicians, in the logistic, industrial and agricultural sectors.

Taxes are subject to modifications depending on the individual income. However, the average wage is 4 393’58 €. This allows you to pay the rent or the mortgage of a house, supplying the basic needs and saving for unforeseen expenses. But, above all, to enjoy life!

We also need to emphasize that it is such an innovative country, USA  encourages the business creation and the economic independence of young people. Its aim is that young people contribute with ideas to expand the market, produce goods and improve the country. All this allows them to work in something they like and inspires them from the beginning.
